Dear Josh Ritter,

I am obsessed with your most recent album, The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter, which I just discovered was released on my birthday last year.

I know this obsession will not gain me any street cred with the musical community – in fact, I’ll probably lose what little I have left – because, even though you have your own wikipedia entry, you are neither a scenester nor a consummate cocaine user. Instead you are being touted as a “soon to be legendary folk singer” on places like YouTube. Do you see what I’m saying about the street cred thing? (Luckily, Cat Power’s newest covers album, Jukebox, came out today, so that should redeem my musical scenesterdom for a brief period).

But all that aside, I’d like to say good work. You are now my morning-walk-to-work/school soundtrack. And you’ve come a long way since I saw you open for Sarah Harmer five years ago.

Keep it up.

Yours,

Gabby
